Photos from my Peace Corps Paraguay Service

In October 2001, I set out to be an environmental educator in rural Paraguay in the Peace Corps. I was assigned to Enramadita, Tavai, Caazapa where I planted trees with youth and community groups, facilitated teacher workshops, taught basic English, and drank the local tea called terere with my Paraguayan friends. After 2 years in the interior of the country, I moved to the capital to work in the Peace Corps office as a volunteer coordinator working on promoting the use of ICTs (information and communication technologies) such as radio, computer, and video. Here are a few photos from my 3 and half years of service.

The trees are much taller than me now, in 2005

The tree I'm standing next to is a native species called yvyra pyta, which means red wood in Guarani. The youth group planted these trees in the first few months that I was in Enramadita, around Feb 2002. The community park was an on-going project during my service to plant and maintain native and exotic trees to create a community natural space.
